Engineering Resources & Technical Guides

This hub collects anchor bolt specifications and technical references for structural engineers and EPC procurement, including an ASTM F1554 grade chart (Grades 36, 55, and 105) and the hot-dip galvanizing standards (ASTM A123, A153, F2329, A767) Madden Bolt builds to. Use the reference data below on your next project, and request full project-specific documentation any time. We are a family-owned, AISC certified fabricator in Houston, Texas.

Anchor Bolt Specifications: ASTM F1554 Grade Chart

In the U.S., ASTM F1554 is the spec that governs anchor bolt specifications. It sets three strength grades. We fabricate all three:

ASTM F1554 anchor bolt grades fabricated by Madden Bolt
GradeMin. Yield (ksi)Tensile (ksi)Typical Use & Weldability
F1554 Grade 363658–80General structural anchoring; readily weldable mild steel
F1554 Grade 555575–95Higher-load connections; weldable with the S1 chemistry supplement
F1554 Grade 105105–125125–150High-strength anchoring; quenched & tempered, not generally weldable

Diameters run from 3/4 inch to 3 inches, with custom lengths available on request. Beyond F1554, we regularly fabricate to A36, A572 Grade 50, A193 B7, A354 Grade BC, A193 B8 and B8M, A320 B8 and B8M, L7 and L43, 1011 and 1018, and 304/316 stainless, plus structural grades such as A992 Gr. 50, A53, and A500 when a project specification requires it. For the full breakdown, see our anchor bolts page.

Hot-Dip Galvanizing Standards

Corrosion protection on structural steel is governed by four ASTM standards. Madden Bolt galvanizes in-house to all four, on the same property the parts are fabricated:

  • ASTM A123, hot-dip galvanizing of fabricated steel products
  • ASTM A153, hot-dip galvanizing of bolts, nuts, washers, and hardware
  • ASTM F2329, hot-dip galvanizing of threaded fasteners and anchor bolts
  • ASTM A767, hot-dip galvanizing of reinforcing bar (rebar)

Because galvanizing runs on the same property as fabrication, zinc coating thickness stays consistent lot to lot and there are no outside-vendor scheduling delays. Learn more on our in-house hot-dip galvanizing page.

Guides for Engineers & EPC Procurement

Get the spec and the sourcing right the first time, and the rest of the job goes easier. Here’s the kind of reference we hand structural engineers and procurement teams:

  • ASTM F1554 grade selection, matching Grade 36, 55, or 105 to load and weldability requirements
  • Anchor bolt configuration reference, J-bolts, L-bolts, U-bolts, headed, swedge, plate, and double-end threaded
  • Galvanizing specification guidance, choosing A123, A153, F2329, or A767 for your assembly
  • Custom fabrication detailing, brackets, sole plates, base plates, sleeves, and weldments per spec
  • Traceability documentation, mill test reports (MTRs) and Charpy V-notch (CVN) impact testing on request

Downloads & Documentation

Downloadable grade charts and galvanizing references for engineers and procurement teams are in preparation (ASTM standards themselves must be purchased from ASTM, so we do not republish them). Until they are posted, the core reference data is published right here on this page, and full project-specific documentation is available on request, including mill test reports (MTRs) and material certifications matched to the grade and finish on your order. Contact us or request a quote and tell us what your project needs.

Resources FAQs

ASTM F1554 defines three grades: Grade 36 (36 ksi minimum yield, readily weldable mild steel), Grade 55 (55 ksi yield, weldable with the S1 chemistry supplement), and Grade 105 (105 ksi yield, high-strength, quenched and tempered).

Four ASTM standards cover hot-dip galvanizing for our work: A123 for fabricated steel, A153 for bolts, nuts, and washers, F2329 for threaded fasteners, and A767 for reinforcing bar (rebar). Madden Bolt galvanizes in-house to all four on the same property the parts are fabricated, which keeps zinc coating thickness consistent and removes outside-vendor scheduling delays.

Diameters run from 3/4 inch to 3 inches. Lengths are cut to your spec with no practical maximum within shipping limits. UNC and 8-UN are available, single- or double-end threaded.

We are preparing downloadable grade charts and galvanizing references for structural engineers and procurement teams (ASTM standards must be purchased from ASTM, so we do not republish those). In the meantime, the core reference data is published on this page, and full project-specific documentation (mill test reports (MTRs) and certs) is available on request. Email sales@maddenbolt.com or call 713.939.9999 and we will send what your project needs.

Every Madden Bolt order is fully traceable. Mill test reports (MTRs) are available on request, and we will provide the documentation your engineer or QA team requires for the grade and finish on your order. Send your project details through our request-a-quote form or contact us directly.
