Anchor Bolts & Threaded Rod

We manufacture custom anchor bolts to ASTM F1554 (Grades 36, 55, and 105) and to your drawings, J-bolts, L-bolts, U-bolts, and plate bolts. Everything is fabricated, threaded, and hot-dip galvanized at our Houston facilities. AISC certified, family-owned since 1988.

What Are Anchor Bolts?

An anchor bolt is a threaded steel fastener set into concrete that ties a structural member (a column, base plate, equipment skid, or pole foundation) down to its footing, carrying tension and shear loads into the concrete. You’ll also hear them called foundation bolts, or hold-down bolts. They’re specified by grade, diameter, length, and embedment shape, and we build them to ASTM F1554 and your engineer’s exact bend, thread, and length, then hot-dip galvanize them in-house before they ship.

Anchor Bolt Types We Fabricate

Every anchor bolt leaves our Houston shop built to a specific drawing. Common configurations include:

  • Bent anchor bolts (J & L), hooked embedment to your radius
  • U-bolts, for pipe, conduit, and round members
  • Plate & template bolts, welded to plates or kitted with templates
  • Double-end threaded rods, leveling and anchor nuts both ends
  • All-thread rod, cut to length in F1554 Grade 55, 105, or A193 B7
  • Complete assemblies, bolts, heavy hex nuts, washers, templates

Need the whole connection built as one unit? We’ll pair the bolts with our steel embeds and embedded plates or threaded rebar anchor cages so it all ships as one source.

ASTM F1554 Grades & Specifications

ASTM F1554 is the spec that governs anchor bolts in the U.S. It sets three strength grades:

ASTM F1554 anchor bolt grades fabricated by Madden Bolt
GradeMin. Yield (ksi)Tensile (ksi)Typical Use & Weldability
F1554 Grade 363658–80General structural anchoring; readily weldable mild steel
F1554 Grade 555575–95Higher-load connections; weldable with the S1 supplement
F1554 Grade 105105–125125–150High-strength; quenched & tempered, not generally weldable

Diameters run 3/4 inch to 3 inches in standard 1/4-inch increments (no custom diameters). Nominal sizing covers 1 inch to 3 inches; pitch-diameter sizing is available from 3/4 inch to 2-1/4 inch. Lengths are cut to your spec. See the standard size chart below. Past F1554, we regularly run A36, A572 Grade 50, A193 B7, A354 Grade BC, A193 B8 and B8M, A320 B8 and B8M, L7 and L43, 1011 and 1018, and 304/316 stainless when the spec calls for it.

In-House Hot-Dip Galvanizing.

Corrosion protection isn’t a separate trip to an outside vendor. We hot-dip galvanize anchor bolts, rods, and assemblies in-house per ASTM A123 (fabricated steel), A153 (bolts, nuts, washers), F2329, and A767 (rebar), on the same property we fabricated them on.

Our kettle has run right next to the fab shop since 2007. That buys you consistent zinc thickness lot to lot, one QC team from raw steel to finished part, and nobody waiting on an outside galvanizer’s calendar, a big reason our galvanized anchor bolt lead times beat the industry.

Sizes, Threads & Custom Configurations

Send us a drawing and we build to it. Standard capabilities include:

  • Diameters from 3/4 inch to 3 inches in 1/4-inch increments (nominal 1 inch to 3 inches, plus pitch diameter 3/4 inch to 2-1/4 inch) — standard sizes, no custom diameters
  • Lengths cut to spec, no practical maximum within shipping limits
  • UNC and 8-UN; rolled or cut threads
  • Any hook angle and bend dimension for J- and L-bolts
  • Thread-one-end, double-end, or fully threaded
  • Heavy hex nuts, jam nuts, plate washers, setting templates

No drawing yet? Send a sketch and we’ll help nail down the detail before anything hits the floor.

AISC Certified Quality & Full Traceability

We’re an AISC certified fabricator with a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) on staff. Every anchor bolt order traces back to the heat, backed by mill test reports (MTRs).

From the dock to the final galvanizing, one quality team signs off on every lot. See our full quality and safety standards.

Anchor Bolt FAQs

Yes, they’re the same thing. ASTM F1554 happens to call the straight threaded rod an ‘anchor rod,’ but everybody says ‘anchor bolt,’ and it covers bent shapes like J-bolts and L-bolts too. We just call them anchor bolts and build whatever your drawing shows.

All three. Grade 36 at 36 ksi minimum yield, Grade 55 at 55 ksi (weldable when you add the S1 chemistry supplement), and Grade 105 at 105 ksi for high-strength work. When a spec calls for something else, we also run A36, A572 Grade 50, A193 B7, A354 Grade BC, A193 B8 and B8M, A320 B8 and B8M, L7 and L43, 1011 and 1018, and 304/316 stainless.

J-bolts, L-bolts, U-bolts, plate (template) bolts, double-end threaded rods, and continuous all-thread. We’ll also kit the whole assembly, heavy hex nuts, washers, and setting templates. Whatever the bend, thread, and length your engineer drew, that’s what we build.

Yes. Our kettle has sat on the same property as the fab shop since 2007. We fabricate, thread, and hot-dip galvanize per ASTM A123, A153, and F2329 right here, so nobody’s waiting on an outside galvanizer’s schedule, and one QC team owns the part from raw steel to the truck.

Diameters from 3/4 inch to 3 inches in 1/4-inch increments (nominal 1 inch to 3 inches, plus pitch diameter 3/4 inch to 2-1/4 inch) — standard sizes, no custom diameters. We cut length to your spec, there’s no real maximum short of what’ll fit on a truck. Threads run UNC or 8-UN, single- or double-end.
